Megan & Michael. Bar Harbor, Maine Destination Elopement Photographer

Megan & Michael’s Bar Harbor, Maine marathon elopement tops the list for one of the most memorable weddings I’ve ever photographed. The whole weekend was filled with so much anticipation, both for their first marathon as well as the non-traditional wedding ceremony. And it was such a joy to witness everything both as a friend and their photographer! And as a special bonus, David and my brother and his wife were all along for the wedding weekend!

David and I met up with Megan and Michael at our hotel around 7:30 that morning, walked to the marathon starting area, and then they began the day with pinning on each other’s bibs. I specifically remember AC/DC’s Thunderstruck blaring through the race speakers, and the energy at the start line was crazy!

Once the starting gun went off, it didn’t take long before David and I had to get in the car to get ahead of Megan and Michael, and it was about mile 10 when we were able to finally see them again. I hate running, and I don’t say that lightly. I am completely impressed that anyone would want to run 26.2 miles on their wedding day, and although they were incredibly tired and beaten by wind coming off of the coast, Megan and Michael managed to smile as they would pass us. I admit I was worried that a first time marathon might be a bad idea, with only one {or neither} of them crossing the finish line, but I was so wrong!

Once they crossed the finish line, we walked as a small group of family and friends back to the house where Megan and Michael were staying. Without taking a break, they said their vows on the porch with a short and sweet ceremony. Afterwards they chatted with everyone for a few minutes and then went inside for much needed showers and a few hours of rest before dinner with their guests at Stewman’s Lobster Pound. It was a whirlwind of a day!
